Masterclass Light, Color, Architecture

From perception to professional color concepts.

Color is more than decoration. Color differences reveal light and space, shaping how we perceive architecture. Understanding the relationships between light, color, volume, and emotion provides a logical method for developing architectural color concepts based on objective principles of visual perception.

8 online lessons by Dr. Katrin Trautwein, available on demand to study at your own pace. Accredited with up to 4 continuing education credits by the German Chamber of Architects.

Online Continuing Education for Architects and Designers by Dr. Katrin Trautwein

Dr. Katrin Trautwein is a Swiss color researcher and trained chemist (Dr. sc. nat., ETH Zurich). In 1997, she founded ktCOLOR, a Swiss paint manufactory producing architectural paints from rare natural pigments. Her research into historic color concepts—including the reconstruction of Le Corbusier's architectural palette—forms the foundation of her international teaching and consulting work for architects, conservators, and designers.

This online continuing education program is designed for architects, interior designers, industrial designers, craftspeople, and students. It combines contemporary vision science with more than three decades of research into pigments, materiality, and architectural color design.

Develop greater confidence in working with color, learn to create professional color concepts, and discover a new perception-based approach to selecting color and presenting concepts to architects and clients.

The free Webinar Light, Color, Architecture - Introduction is the ideal place to begin. It introduces the content and structure of the Masterclass, and Dr. Katrin Trautwein answers participants' questions during the live Q&A at the end of each session. After completing the webinar, you can continue through the modules at your own pace.
